When God Speaks

Woo hoo! My firstborn came home from church camp today.

I missed him so much this week. We are so glad he's back home. He's a little sunburned...very hoarse (but not from talking a lot. I'M SURE OF IT.)...and very much in need of a bath. So we have been nursing him back to normal life, and having a fun night at home...all of us. We even vegged a while in front of the TV...belly-laughing at America's Funniest Home Videos. For some reason, we all felt the need to sit in one small chair. Even Flash.

We LOVE to watch AFV as a family. What is it that makes us laugh to see people fall? I mean, I don't want anyone to incur an injury or anything. But seeing someone take a tumble just sends me over the edge in inappropriate laughter. Speaking of which...have you all seen the previews for the upcoming ABC show "Wipeout?" It's a reality show where the people compete in obstacle courses which are basically designed to make them fall...or, wipeout.

Party at my house on June 24 to watch "Wipeout."

Anyway, we have had fun debriefing Jack on all the goings on at camp. What the games were like...what the food was like...did he sleep well...why did he wear two t-shirts the whole week, and not the other 9 I packed him...who he hung out with...what the worship and teaching were like...we have gotten the scoop on his "best week ever." He loved every minute of it.

And I told him that we had been praying that He would hear the Lord speak to him while he was there. So I asked him, "Did the Lord speak to you?"

"Yes," he replied.

"What did He say?"

"He showed me how to be less of a butthead."

Pause.

And there you have it. The gospel alive and active in an 11 year old.

I'm going to ask Him to show ME that too.

I like the way God geared His language toward Jack's age...I actually would like things to be put that simply and directly to me, too! :o)

By the way, LOVE that little mini-dachshund there behind you! My own "Flash" (aka Riley) is in the same position on the back of my couch right now!

Enjoy your family this weekend!

My kids are leaving for church camp on Tuesday. I'll be praying that God speak to them about being "butt-heads" too. :)

Just the other night I saw the preview for "Wipeout" and told David that WE HAVE TO RECORD THAT.

Glad Jack's home. Less of a butthead is always a good thing. Hallelujah.

I love that you guys are all in one chair. That is so great.

My daughter leaves for camp on Monday and yes - I will miss her like crazy too. I can't wait until she returns with some "food" from the Lord as well.

My childrens (12 yr old girl and 15yr old boy) just got home from church camp yesterday, too. My daughter (this was the first year she was old enough to go to camp) talked all afternoon telling me everything about camp!!! My son (who is a person of few words) slept all afternoon!!

I hope both of them also learned to be less of a butthead!!

Btw, Travis, I love your music!! I've been to Living Proof Life several times as well as to many Lifeway women's events at which you've lead praise and worship - some of these going back to the days when Mandisa started with you. I also have several CD's.

Keep up the great work!!

Travis you just crack me up! I am so glad that you can be so real with us. Many have watched you "from afar" and worshipped with you, but when you can share with us the way you do, it is so reassuring...we are not alone.

Wipeout does look great. My family loves to sit and watch AFV together, too and my girls are teens! Great memories.

Where did you say Jack went to camp? My girls need to go and hear God tell them the same thing! :)

God does indeed speak our language to make the point!

I'm so glad that He speaks in my language of "duh" when I'm being stubborn. :)

Praying over each one of you!

I love it!

We had VBS this week. I informed my daughter (7yrs) she could have a sleepover with her best friend. She started screaming "Thank You, Thank You". I replied, "your welcome". She said "I'm not talking to you".
Me looking around confused "OK?"
She explained that during VBS she and her friend were in the bathroom, in the same stall, (...I didn't ask?) praying to have a sleep over. And therefore her Thank You's were to GOD. Praise Him that he hears our prayers even in the bathroom.

Hi, Travis!
I just wanted you to know that I simply cannot wait to hear you sing very soon via satellite in Michigan and in San Antonio in August! No one sings "In Christ Alone" or "Made Me Glad" like you! I'm so excited and wanted you to know!
In His Love,
Angie xoxo

I sent my 10 year old boy with 7 pairs of clean underwear. Do you know how many pairs of clean underwear he came home with?

Yep, 7.

Apparently one shirt and one pair of shorts/trucks is all he needed. It should make packing for this year a breeze! I guess there's no need for soap either.

I also laugh when people fall. I can't figure that out. We love AFV.
I'm sure we'll like Wipeout, too.

God spoke to me just now through that picture of you with your kids in that chair. I need to put work down and spend more time with my family.

We also love AFV.

God speaks to us all and speaks to each age!! I think He got a little Holy knee slap out of that one!!

Glad he's back dad. I know the feeling. :)

I loved this blog. I am getting ready to send both of my daughters to church camp tomorrow. My husband and I will have an empty house and hopefully some date nights!! This is our first time to have them go to camp, so we have much of what you mentioned to look forward to. We have had all of the 'taking a bath' and 'brushing your teeth'pep talks, so we'll see what happens I guess! I know we will miss them too. My favorite was how God spoke to Jack. :) Thank you for reminding me of how I want to pray next week! Blessings to you and your family.

You know what is fun? Watching rookies try and walk on the road paint in the rain. It's pretty slippery, and it's some good fodder for physical comedy. Maybe it's just me, but I work on a college campus so there is a lot of walking in the rain. Good times.

Also, "less of a butthead" is going to be my rally-cry this week.

Wipeout does look like it will be HILARIOUS! Have you seen the commercial where several people are trying to pull a lady out of the mud and she says "Ohhh - I shouldn't have eaten that last burrito"! OH MY GOODNESS - I laughed sooo hard!

How awesome that your 11 year old prays so fervently. I also pray to not be such a butthead and I'm 64 years old. God listens!!!!

That is HYSTERICAL! Must be a new translation God is working on!! I LOVE IT!

AFV-It always throws me into fits of totally inappropriate laughter, too. Hmmm.

Blessings to you!!

Howdy Cottrells:

Well, we are having our own camp blues this week with my youngest - Taylor who is 16 going on 35... no kidding she is full of spit and vinegar that one! Not really, she is actually one of the most God-seeking, Spirit-filled people I know and I always tell her how glad I am to see her Bible all dog eared, post-it noted... (is that an appropriate description) and marked up on the inside and out! (She has a bit of her momma in her...)

She called last night - I'm hoping that the youth pastor and his wife took them on a food run or else the kids busted out of the camp, stole the church van and made for civilization last night cause she called me at 11:15 PM to say, "I love you, Momma and I miss you so much!" She said they were learning all about how you can't do life without God - and I said, "RIGHT ON, Baby Girl!"

I love what she's doing and what God's doing there... brings tears to my eyes. My oldest girl is a little lost without her faithful sidekick... They have been inseparable their whole life long. When they finally got separate bedrooms they still slept in the same bed - just switched rooms every night. Brittany - the elder - has slept in Taylor's bed all week.

So sweet to see 'em love each other so much.

Me and my Brittany, we laugh our behinds off when someone falls or has some sort of accident.

And Travis, perhaps when you get it nailed down - you could share with us how God instructed your young one not to be a butthead - cause it is bound to strike any one of us at any moment!

Blessings.
