Idol Recap: Top 11

I have no business blogging tonight. There is too much to do. I have to get my taxes ready for my tax guy. You know...the tax prep prep. Chances are good I will be pulling an all-nighter tonight or tomorrow, because I hit the dusty trail to Dallas on Thursday morning. (And then on to Cary, NC for a Sunday night concert...NC friends come join us! Details on my website.

Anyway, I am here with a quick rundown of my favorites from Idol tonight. Of course you know I'm giving big ups to my Carolina boy Anoop, who was GREAT tonight. I'm telling you, he would make a great record. He is a very capable singer with a great natural style about his vocals. Rock on, NoopDog. It was a great performance. I was nervous for him on country night. But he pulled it off in a big way.

Where did Kris Allen come from with that performance tonight? Good grief, that was a great vocal. His stock went WAY up tonight. I mean, really. When was the last time we heard such a tender, sincere and strong ballad performance from a male contestant on this show? I guess David Archuleta singing Imagine last year. I think Kris might have been about that good tonight. Or better.

Also great: Matt Giraud. He is a great musician. I am actually starting forget his Coldplay debacle. And Simon is right: he reminds me of Michael Buble, too. He is going to be around for a long time.

Danny Gokey showed a little bit of weakness tonight. Not a great performance; weak verses, overblown choruses. But he is still awesome. He's not going anywhere. He will come back next week and be back to his stellar self. After he gets back from skiing, of course.

Allison surprised me tonight. I thought she was strong. Maybe even my favorite performance of hers so far. It had some nuance, which I hadn't really heard from her before tonight.

Megan, although not the best singer in the world, still has a captivating voice to me. I always want to hear what she is going to do next. I really dig her style. I was wishing she wouldn't have pushed so much when she was singing. But then I realized she was sick. She was probably overcompensating. In fact I know she was. I do the same thing when I have to sing on a sick voice.

Those were my favorites. That's all I got for tonight. It's back to adding up receipts for me.

Agreed.

The boys have it this year for sure...I don't see girls makin' it in the long run. I want Alexis to be better...man, I think she's got some potential and every week it's short..

Danny was out of it tonight...I wish they wouldn't have even given him as much as they did...and SOOO glad Simon mentioned that jacket..that was my very.first.thought.

Did love Kris but my fave? Matt G. He's just great.

Alright, I'll add up my receipts too...Chik-Fil-A, JCPenney's and Starbucks from today...we don't meet the tax lady until 2 more weeks!! Praying over your upcoming "stuff"!

Praying for you, dude.

As for AI:
Michael is going home. Too mucha-talka-backa to the judges.

Adam...ohhhh Adam...

Adam needs to simma downna. He's outta control.

Anoop WAS great. Danny was still as passion-filled as ever and cool...and I LIKED THE JACKET, THANKYOUVERYMUCH.

Lil Rounds is in trouble...

Megan was...eh..

I finally got my workstation back to normal, so I think I'm going to work now. See you on the other side.

Overall I thought it was a good night. My opinoin is that Michael was the weakest, and Adam was too out there. But I think we're going to have a strong Top 10. Was glad to see Anoop back. Kudos to Megan for pushing through in the midst of the flu. Lovin' this year.

I have now started saying
"ANOOOOOOOOP" whenever he is about to sing or shown on TV. My 10 and 12 year old girls just love it. Can you hear the sarcasm?

I would like to think that his doing so well the same week that the NCAA Tournament begins is only a positive sign for our Tar Heels!

It would have been so effective to see Danny sitting on a stool, lights low, just a guitar backing him, singing a song like "When I Get Where I'm Going," or "When Love Finds You," or "When You Say Nothing at All." Even so, although he was nervous (because he picked the wrong song), he still built it into something strong. He can sing.

Adam easily has a job in Vegas, and he needs to start it now.

Anoop's performance was great last night, but overall I don't see where he fits as an solo artist.

Lil was out of sync -- from her clothes to the song. Nothing fit right. She's a good vocalist, but not very versatile as a communicator.

Kris was nearly stellar, and "To Make You Feel My Love" was the best song choice of the night.

Matt's arrangement on "So Small" was phenomenal (loved the chord progressions), but his vocals were very shaky. He didn't seem to be in control of his voice throughout much of the song.

What I'd like to change about American Idol:

1. Never again would anyone sing "Jesus, Take the Wheel," "Independence Day," or "Walkin' after Midnight." These songs need to be retired permanently. Let the originals stand.

2. Studio musicians who truly understand country would be the ones to come in and arrange & perform the songs for country night. Last night, it was like some of the songs were being drug along behind the back of a truck, and the contestants suffered for it.

whoever just wrote that is right... Danny singing "When I Get Where I'm Going" would have been AMAZING.
still.
love Danny.

I hope he wins.

Loved Kris. And Anoop. I think it could be an all-guy top 4.

Paula has GOT to go.

I agree with you on everyone except for Megan- I think she's given us everything she has, meaning, there's no more depth than what we have seen. I don't know- she was fun but is out of her league now, I think- except in beauty. But Kris, Anoop, and Allison! Seriously.

I thought it was a pretty strong night. Curious as to your thoughts on Adam Lambert doing Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire?" My girls told me he was creepy and he was scaring them. HA HA

Travis,
Are you still going to be leading worship in the Sunday morning service in Cary? I can't make it to the concert but would love to be there in the morning! :)

I really think the props have to go out to the guys this year. Danny can sing the newspaper and make it sound good. Kris is a good ole southern boy from my neck of the woods, Conway Arkansas....he's really big into the praise band. I would love to see either Danny or Kris win!!

I don't get the judges. They always complain that people sound like theater singers, then they get Adam who IS a theater singer, and they can't praise him enough. Go figure. I was glad Pauler, as Simon calls her, had recovered. She appeared to be freshly botoxed last week and could hardly move her face. Bless her heart...........
