Against All Odds, I Remember Who Had the Best Pool on the Strand

OK. I realize that it's August 3rd, and I have already blogged as much in August as I did in July. Yes. I'm aware of this. And I also am aware that there are only 4 of you even coming back to to see my poor, pitiful blog. I guess I am sensing myself coming out of my blog hiatus. I went from recording (January-February) to depression (March-April) to family end-of-school/summer break/family vacation (May-June) to work-like-a-mad-man (July). And it looks like I will be working like a mad man in August, too. But for some reason, with the kids getting ready to head back to school, and with most of my writing and recording responsibilities finished for a few weeks, I am finding space in my head to be able to think clearly and post a few things. I apologize for the here today - gone tomorrow-ness of my blogging. You are a forgiving family. Thank you.

The first week of our Jesus Saves Live tour was a blast. We had three fun nights of worship in West Monroe, LA, Houston and Dallas. Thanks to all the folks who joined us...and to all the great people at all three churches who fed us, drove us around, prayed with us, played basketball with us, and allowed us to journey with you for a day. We are thankful.

Jesus Saves Live is up and running again this weekend. Here is the schedule:

Friday night, August 7 - Garden City Beach, SC - Garden City Chapel (Murrell's Inlet / Myrtle Beach area)
Saturday night, August 8 - Douglasville, GA - Central Baptist Church (Atlanta area)
Sunday night, August 9 - Huntsville, AL - Jackson Way Baptist Church

We are looking forward to all three nights. Come join us if you can. You can find more information on my website.

I am excited to be in the Myrtle Beach area. My family vacationed there every single summer for the first 18 years of my life, and I haven't been back since. I know it's changed so much. But I just want to drive down the strand and take in the sites...see the old motels we used to stay in, and the old ice cream shops where we would get dip cones every year. I remember as a kid I would pour over the motel brochures that my dad would get in the mail. And I would rank every one of them according to pool size, and whether or not they had an indoor pool. I still remember the names of my favorites...Captain's Quarters, Ocean Reef, Tropical Winds, Sea Crest.

I know. My mind is a wonder. A thinking, intellectual wonder. What with all the impressive information constantly flowing out of me. Like Phil Collins chord progressions and names of motels on the Myrtle Beach strand in 1982.

If you are planning on coming to worship with us this weekend, give us a shout in the comments. See you then.

Breaking News...longtime TCM blog reader Tiff, gets to be the FIRST commenter of the night!! ;)

No matter how little or much you blog...I'll "take a look at you now" and keep coming back...

Random names of beach hotels crack me up!!

Hoping like everything to come see you in Douglasville since you'll be in "my" hotLanta. We actually met at the live recording at FBCW (don't worry you don't have to remember me even though I was really funny ;)...and continued to beg you to record Psalm 121 from the Stepping Up dvd..just sayin')

My other fave vacation "thing"? Those eleventy hundred pamphlets cases at Shoney's, rest stops, etc?! Oh my..an entire collection in the backseat of all roadtrips...to semi-quote the great Barbra Mandrell "I was Orbitz when Orbitz wasn't cool.." b/c I knew all the amazing caverns, amusement parks, etc. within a 100 mile radius of where we were! I'll admit my heart still does a little flutter when I see one!

Hope August is good to you!

Glad you're back, even if for just a bit. I'm missed you. Unfortunately, your tour doesn't get anywhere close to St. Louis. So, I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through the comment of others here on your blog.

Much love,
~Cheryl

I'm sorry we missed you while you were in Houston! We would have loved to have gone, especially since Jersey Village Baptist was my mother-in-law's church, but we have a 27-day-old little boy and aren't getting out much these days. By the way, are there background tracks for Jesus Saves? For a tenor? My husband is interested in learning it.

Oh my goodness! I remember the Ocean Reef and Sea Crest...my family stayed at both of those (many times). I, too, went to Myrtle every single year as a child! Funny, 'cause you grew up in Boone, and I, just down the mountain in Marion. LOL! Hope you have a great weekend. Cruise that strip - but know that you now have to pay big money to get into the Pavilion! Can you believe it???

I wonder if they will have childcare in Huntsville?!?! If so I am making the drive...or my man can watch our child! =)

I am so wishing that Douglasville was not a 3 hour drive from these North Ga mountains. Don't suppose you could do a de-tour tour through the mountains of GA??? Hmm, guess not. Sounds like you have a busy weekend.

I love, love, love the new CD. I think my absolute favorite is I Am Persuaded!!! Or maybe, the old hymns. Or maybe Jesus Saves....oh flitter, I like it all. Thanks for all the hard work.

I, too, laughed at the comment about the brochures! I remember doing that as a child and then on our vacation this summer, my girls were grabbing them all up too. I wonder what it is that makes them so alluring? The colorful pictures? The informative text? Or just the fact that they are free?

O:)

We just got back from MB! We alway travel the strip to see what is still there and what has moved on. Yes the Pavilion is gone (sadness!!) But, several of the rides are now at Broadway at the Beach. Sea Captain's House is still there (my fav)!! While in Murrell's Inlet you must go to Inlet Crab House. We usually go there, but not this year. They have great crab claws and she crap soup. Or if you want something a little nicer - Tommy Bahamma Cafe at Market Commons.

Enjoy!

Hey Travis!
I am so pumped about coming to your show in Huntsvegas... um, er... Huntsville on Sunday night. I'm volunteering at the Compassion table just so I could be sure to see you. In the most un-stalkerish way, of course. Can't wait!

How funny - we stayed at Captain's Quarters 2 years ago and...they still have an awesome pool for kids!

Good to see you blogging again.

Any chance the tour might make it north of the mason-dixon? You've got northern peeps too! I'm in Wisconsin, myself, but I'd take Minneapolis.

Cracking up that Tiffani mentioned Shoney's. Our director forced a stop there on a MN - FL choir bus tour in high school. He was SO excited!

Still waiting for Jesus Saves tour to come to WNC. Heard your guitar player is from Asheville. Maybe you should bring him home for a visit. Just a thought.....

Travis, we are so excited to have you at Garden City Chapel Friday. I was blessed by your worship at LPL for Ministers' Wives in March, and am bringing my Clemson student daughter and all her musical friends to hear you in our own hometown!

welcome back.
I wish I could come see you in Douglasville, but my hubby just got laid-off from his job, so there are now funds right now. besides I saw you record the Jesus Saves evening so I'll just have to make do with popping in the CD for a re-cap.

I was vacationing in Myrtle Beach from Maryland. My mom, sister and I were able to attend your concert in Garden City. WOW what a God ordained night for us!! We enjoyed so much worshiping together and feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit. Thank you so much for your message in words and song. I LOVE the new CD. Keep sharing the testimony about the importance of being a spiritual to your kid. That really hits home and yet affirms us "goofy" parents that seem to think God still reigns in our homes first before the ways of the World.
