High School Musical 2

Hey everybody!

So, tonight was the big night. High School Musical 2. I "watched" it with Lily Kate and 5 of her friends, over here for her 7th birthday slumber party (her birthday is Tuesday). I am currently on patrol, making sure these girls (and a precocious little brother) go to sleep with a minimal amount of drama. Yeah, right.

I think I am the only one who watched the movie from begnning to end. A couple of the kids stayed pretty engaged through most of it. But by the end, it was just Angela and me, tearing up at the big "we all love each other and the world rocks" musical number at the end. We are such cheeseballs.

Did you watch it? Did you like it?

It has been a nice week. Wait a minute...have we talked about last weekend? About the Women of Faith conference in Atlanta? About how I got to sing a little diddy with Sandi Patty? About how I could have just swallowed my tongue I was so beside myself? Well, yeah...that.

It was an awesome weekend. And a great honor to sing on the same platform as someone like her. I am very grateful for that moment in time!

It was an end to a brutally intense travel schedule for the summer. By the end of the day last Friday, I had totally lost my voice. I woke up the next morning and had nothing left. Nothing. Well, nothing but dangerously hoarse low noises. I was supposed to sing the next day (Sunday) at FBC Woodstock, GA (an awesome church where I have many friends). And I had to do the unthinkable - I had to cancel my day there. I was so stressed out, because I didn't want to cancel. But I know my voice well, and I knew that it was not going to bounce back quickly. So I had to call them and tell them I couldn't do it. Arghhhh.

So, although I hated to cancel, I knew it was the right thing to do. I will go back there sometime soon.

I have had this whole week to rest my voice, and it has been wonderful. Nothing but grocery store runs, football and cheerleading practice, grilling out, some office work...and, oh yeah, High School Musical with six 7-year-olds.

Awesome week indeed!

I'm not sure if you can use this info, but I thought I'd share:

WAKE UP CALL FROM HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL2 STAR
http://www.irgent.com/walmartwakeup/index.htm
(It's free!)
I have already requested a 6:30am wake up call for my 16-year-old daughter on Monday morning..her first day of school. I consider it payback for being able to sleep in all summer! I knew giving her a cell phone would come in handy one day!

If anyone deserves a break, it's you! We actually upgraded our dish network account yesterday specifically to get HSM 2. I know, it's sad. We recorded it, though, so we wouldn't have to watch the incessant commercials. We'll watch it tonight. I'm sure you'll get "dad of the year" with your daughter's friends!

Oh, yeah- Sandi Patti! WOW

HSM 2 was awesome. We bought the soundtrack on Thursday and my girls already knew all the songs by heart by the time it came on TV last night. They are actually already watching it again this morning. My sister, my friend and I got to spend the day with you and Beth on Friday and then attend the Women of Faith Conference on Friday evening and Saturday in Atlanta last weekend. It was beyond AWESOME! This was our first WOF conference. Beth wasn't kidding when she said that we were in for a wonderful time. All of those women are truly amazing. We laughed, we cried, sometimes at the same time. It was truly a great girls weekend out.

I was thinking about you last night, while my family watched HS Musical! LOL My kids are already trying to learn the dances...does it make you think of older ones? like Grease LOL, or Westside Story More LOL!! My hubs was gagging the whole way through...but we admit that it was done well, and some of those kids have talent.

Thanks for sharing Travis, just had to check in and see if you survived the girls, and the movie! :)

IF you had heard the squeal that came out of my room full of girls at the beginning of the movie - you would have had your ears PIERCED! And yes, I loved it. That in the end, we do the right thing and stand for what's right. Sure = it's a little cheesy but inside I think it's what we all long for. To do what's right! Especially in my walk with the Lord. Plus I love the catchy little tunes they sing! I find myself singing them as much as my kids.

Sandi Patty is the greatest. And I would have loved to have heard the two of you together. Is that as intimidating as it would seem?

Glad your madness has come to an end (for the time being). Love your blog...

So with that said, let me end with an ode to HSM2

What time is it?
The time of our lives
Anticipation

Csn't wait to see what God will do next...

I would just like to go on the record and say that if I ever have the opportunity to meet Sandi Patty, there is not a doubt in my mind that I will make an absolute, total fool of myself. So I'm completely impressed that you were able to SING ACTUAL WORDS while on stage with her.

Because I would probably just sit in a corner and rock back and forth while humming "Another Time, Another Place." And she would be understandably frightened.

YES!!! I totally watched High School Musical 2. I wish I could have watched it with 6 7 year olds. I guess I'm just going to have to come visit again! I miss you guys and I can't wait to see you all again!

Riley Whitworth keeps telling me she is going to bring your cd in to school so that we can listen to it! :)

I love you and remember to rock out...."We're all in this together..."

ehhh, it was alright, but I wasn't moved beyond words.

So glad you were blessed in Atlanta! Praying for your voice.

HSM2
We were gone last night, so my girls (6&8), got up at 7am to watch it this morning. Yes, I watched it with them. We loved it! I do confess that I thought it was more "mature" than the first one. We already had the music and loved the dancing. The funniest thing is watching my 2 year old son dancing and clapping in front of the TV. I'm thinking we've already hit HSM overkill in less than 24 hours!
Glad Lily Kate had a good birthday, and hope you (and Angela) can rest and recover from the slumber party!

I confess... Holly and I watched it with a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old, both boys. We all enjoyed it... ate popcorn and made a big night of it. At one point, the 3-year-old said, "When is the girl in the pink pajamas coming back?" Holly just said, "He likes blonds." At 8 a.m. this morning, Jacob asked, "Would you turn on HSM2 for me?"

My favorite number was the one at the baseball game:-) I'm a cheeseball too!

1) I need to confess that I'm so out of the loop, I didn't even know there was a HSM 1 until this summer. (GASP!) I know...something is surely wrong with me. It's called 'I never watch tv.'
2) "Well, nothing but dangerously hoarse low noises." LOL! :)
3) I'm glad you've been able to rest. See you in Bah-ston! I'll be the zoned-out child in the arena from my coffee overdose on account of the 18 hour road trip! lol

Visited your blog this morning...read your post about Lily Kate's birthday..I remembered holding her in Belmont Church when Beth was speaking and she was days old...how God so healed my heart of hurt and disappointment over my own child's life and the struggles I had gone through...how it had soooo NOT been like I had thought when I adopted her at 10 days old. As I was holding Lily Kate that night and looking into her little precious face God placed His hand on that wound in my heart and I knew that I would never be the same. 7 years have passed and God has been faithful...I can hold infants and NOT be saddened by my own woundedness. Please share with Lily Kate that God began using her as a tiny infant when a battered, hurting and disappointed person held her. HE "is" truly the kindest Person I have ever known.

Hi Travis!

Will you have your voice back for LPL event in RI? You've just gotta! I'm sorry for you not being able to sing at your friends church, that must have been such a disapointment. May God bless you with an even better opportunity when you do go there again. I hope that makes sense.

Also, I am very excited about the HS musical 2 being out, but is it going to be on DVD?? We don't have "tv" to be able to watch it.

May God Bless you and your family as you do the work of our Lord and may He put a hedge of protection around you all!

With love,
Joanne from NH

I wrote a http://singforhim94.blogspot.com/2007/08/real-life-movie-review-high-school.html>review of HSM 2 on my blog. You might want to check it out. Tell me what you think as a parent of a 7 year-old.

Oh my goodness Travis. The similarities continue. My daughter Sammie who just turned 16 this month reminds me so much of your own Lily Kate. You see Sammie is wedged between two brothers, one older and one younger. And she's strong, sassy, and determined that her way is right (can you say "strong-willed" child?).

What makes me think of this is that Sammie had her own High School Musical 2 party Friday night, complete with squeeling teen-age girls (Oh boy she'd be horrified if she read this!!). And no, they don't outgrow it.

So, like you and Angela my husband and I will be humming the songs form High School Musical for a while.

From one older cheeseball parent to a slightly younger one,

I was able to the attend the pre-conference event in Atlanta with a friend of mine on Friday and then by another friend gave me a ticket for my birthday for the rest of the conference. What a wonderful time! I tried to come see you in Woodstock on Sunday, but as usual, God was in charge and I didn't make it, but from reading your blog I see there was a reason that I didn't make the 90 minute drive. I hope that you are feeling better and will reschedule soon.

I can't get the "What time is it" out of my head. Every time someone asks that question.. I want to scream "it's summer time..." It is funny how the music sticks with you.

So cool about Sandi Patty, and hope your voice recovers soon.

Blessings to your family!!

I just found out what the HSM thing was last night. I am so not with it. I guess because my little one is only 2. We are still in to Veggie Tales (or should I say I am in to veggie tales...where was that when I was a kid?) and Dora.

We hosted a HSM2 party for my 5 year old. She begins kindergarten in a week, but said she wants so badly to skip to high school because it looks so awesome. I don't have the heart to tell her there are no break out jam seasons and broadway numbers in the middle of lunch .. at least there wasn't for me :)

I'm glad your party went great.

Travis,

You don't even know my love for HSM. It's sad, really, how much I love it...and I am 22.

I unfortunately missed it Friday night, but, low and behold, I got to watch it last night. AND, it was the sing along version! You know I busted out whenever I felt the need. When the words are there, I am there!

Glad the party was a hit!

Oh yes, I watched High School Musical 2....every cheesy minute of it. We actually had to go to my in-laws because we don't get Disney. (we have the $9.95 a month cable plan!) Our daughter will be 7 on Sept. 11, so it sounds like we may sharing the same season of life! We also have 2 boys, 10 and 5. And for the record, the first High School Muscial was better. How sad is it that I know that?

I saw you in Atlanta and you were AWESOME! I knew you joked about being nervous but you could never tell! You could feel your excitement! I wish we were all still there right now!
High School Musical 2 was the HIT at our house! August 17th was the date my kids (especially my girls) had talked about ALL summer! I have to admit I teared up several times...and got chills...I love those kinds of movies! "What time is it?"...Hope your voice feels better!

Lily Kate at the chocolate fountain is classic. She is not playin'!

Wow. I feel really out of touch. Apart from this blog, I've never heard of the show. Is it a movie? I have kids, but no cable. Is that why?

Travis, you sure do have a lot of women post here. Sheesh.

Not only did this chick have a Premiere Party for her wee-little one, she sported her very own HSM2 tshirt for the event! I posted about this, too....It was a blast! What a trip that you got to sing with SP....a trip and a blessing!

I have to confess that I would feel the way you did about singing with Sandi Patty if my daughter ever got the chance to sing with you! I will just keep praying and believing!:-)

I know the slumber party times are coming for us! Our daughter is only 4 1/2, but if her preschool birthday parties are any indication, we are in for it! :) She's not discovered "HSM" yet! Oh, but she will. I know she will! (Glad to know there are other cheeseballs out there!) Hope your voice is all rested now! I cannot imagine getting to sing with Sandi Patty. I would have sounded like Porky Pig trying to sing: "Be-dee, be-dee, be-dee...that's all folks!" I could probably hardly speak. I can only imagine how great it was and how beautiful it sounded. How awesome is our God!

I have 2 little boys 7 and 3 so they are not into the High School musical thing. Lucky for me, my hubby and 2 little guys headed out of town last weekend and I just so happened upon the first HSM. I thought it was great. THe drama teacher had me in stiches during the whole audition thing. I laughed and cried and cheered on Troy and Gabrielle!! It was great.
Then Saturday night HSM2 came on and I had my own little party with some popcorn and tissues!!
I figured I would cry and I did - I mean the end. Oh the end...
So sweet!
LOVED IT!!
