Does This Mean I'm Old?

I'll get to that title in a minute...

I have taken great joy reading your comments about the 80's music. Fun times. I have some purchases to make at iTunes with the gift card I got for my birthday...thanks for the ideas.

I loved all of the songs you all named. Lots of my favorites, too...Jump (Van Halen), I Can't Fight This Feeling Any Longer (REO Speedwagon)...Glory of Love...all of them, really. There were just too many to mention.

Wait a minute. American Idol is on. And I can't concentrate. I must say that the group number ALWAYS MAKES ME DIE OF EMBARRASSMENT FOR THEM. It's the worst. Must pause, and...uh, just pause.

Oh no. That was bad. BAD.

So bad, I will be glued for another 14 weeks.

Why the bad group song? WHY?

OK...Idol is over. But that's a whole other post.

Back to the 80's...I know you are just dying to know my embarrassing favorite duet (haha). Actually, there are 3 of them. And I'm not telling what they are. But here's what I will do: In my next post, I will plant two of the words from one of the duet song titles in the post somewhere. See if you can spot the words and figure out the song.

Teeheehee.

Now...let's talk about the title of this post. Guess what Angela and the kids and I did today?

We ate dinner.

At Captain D's.

At 4:15.

I'm so ashamed.

We didn't even eat fried fish. We had the cajun grilled "salmon." Boomama insisted that we put the quotes around 'salmon,' because technically I am not sure it was salmon. But it wasn't that bad. Honestly, it was pretty good.

Taking all these things into consideration...we ate dinner at Captain D's at 4:15 and enjoyed it...does this mean I'm old?

I would love to blog more, but I gotta go make sure the VCR is set for Matlock before I go to bed. It's already 8:11.

I can remember LOVING Capt D's hush puppies in Jr. high.

Why Capt. D's at 4:15? Why there?
We can do some waffle house at 4:15for sure....straight grease to the heart. LOVE IT! :)

We ate Captain D's last Sunday late afternoon, early evening. I like to call it "linner". Not quite lunch, but not quite dinner either. But oh so good. I'm sure that makes me old too. But I thought it made me smart - one meal, not two. Feed the four kids just a snack later. :-)

You're not alone my friend. When my co-workers talk about going out to movies or something like that, I just assume they are talking about the matinees. Here they are going to movies and out to dinner at 7 and 8 in the evening and we are usually in our pj's by then. When we eat dinner out that early, we usually use the excuse that we will beat the crowds.

I still can't believe y'all went to The Cap'n's and didn't get the fried stuff. I'm really not even sure that our friendship can continue. I will have to pray about this. Because I only want what the Lord wants. And I believe the Lord wants fish that is battered and fried in hot peanut oil.

And don't forget to record "Murder, She Wrote," too. It is terribly suspenseful.

I hope you didn't forget to take your teeth out before you went to bed. That cajun spice will play havoc with your dentures.

well, i won't call you old, but that does sound about like the average dinner date we have when my granny comes to town...hahahahaha

FOREVER it was the J&S cafeteria...EVERY time. we finally branched her out to crackle barrel (yessss fun toys to play with while you wait on the food) and eventually even fudruckers. but i was always afraid to order my favorite chocolate dish when she was there...

the 'mother fudrucker brownie' :)

I have never eaten at a Captain D's. But I'm sure that fried food would have been on my plate.

Speaking of old, I was playing a game of Pictionary with my 8th graders to review for an Astronomy test. I thought it would be funny to see if anyone could guess "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (get it? Eclipse?). Finally after about 5 min., one of my musically-inclined kids blurted out the answer. When I cheered him, he said, "I heard it on VH1 Oldies!"

actually, as long as you didn't have forth meal later then I think you did a very smart thing. My daughter got to meet you after the 3:16 event and she told me next time that I commented on your blog to tell you that you are really nice! And that she thinks yall should have your birthday parties together next year :)

Oh wow. Captain D's? At 4:15 p.m.? REALLY?

Well, at least you missed the crowd... you know, the senior citizens' bus usually rolls in around 5:30 p.m. Smart thinking.

You're crackin me up. We don't have a "Captain D's" here so I can't relate there. But I CAN relate on the bedtime. I go to bed by 9pm on school nights! I'm just too tired to stay up much longer. Too much goes on in a day! I do stay up longer on weekends and in the summer - but I feel like such an old fogey with the whole house darkened and us all in bed by 9. :)

Wow..and I thought all families with younguns ate by 5:00pm! I also make my girls sit and watch Lawrence Welk with me when my man is out of town...bring it on Bobby and Cissy!

Wasn't there a "Golden Girls" episode where they ventured to Captain D's? At least tell us that you received an "early bird" discount.

You didn't even have the crunchies? Oh that is just wrong.

I'm 29 and doing dinner at 5 p.m.!!! Either I'm *super* old or I just have 3 kids under 4 (which I do) I perfer to use the latter...

Oh, AI is just the worst with the group numbers! But, gotta fill that hour, I guess. We're glued too. Guess we'll fellowship in their suffering. Have a great weekend.

i saw idol last night and I couldn't figure out the whole cry fest. what was up with that?

You? Old? As long as you didn't talk about your latest doctor's visit or your digestive habits during dinner, I'd say you're in the clear.

I still think '70s music rocks even though I was a teen in the '80s. Tina Turner's Proud Mary? Midnight Train to Georgia? You can't beat that stuff with a stick - even if you wear only one glove!

If I see the clues "secret" and "lover" in your next post, I'll scream out loud.

Ok, y'all are making me laugh out loud. Check out my list of fave shows. You and Melanie inspired me after your trip down Top 40 memory lane!

Captain D's at 4:15 - oh my you are cracking me up!!
I think when you have children especially boys eating that early is a great idea.
My boys come home at 2:30 and eat NONSTOP until I have to make them stop around 4:30 so they will eat dinner at 6pm!
Oh, how I love my boys :)
Have a great weekend

My stomach hurts just thinking about eating at Capt. D's. Bad experience there....very bad.

And the Idol group song. I'm still scratching my head and asking why. I just felt bad for them.

I hope you didn't forget to "Clap on" your night light, slip your slippers under your therapeutic bed, and pop a Tums before bed.

You can't be old if you know how to set your VCR. You'd only be old if you were having your children help you do it.

BethAnne said...

Ummm, yes I do believe that does make you old. Just like my hubs and I are old because we went to Johnny Carino's on Valentine's Day at 4;30 to beat the crowd (I am 35 yrs old). It was us and all the people still in love after 60 years of marriage. And Captain D's? I bet you had to stop at CVS for some Tums and Rolaids on the way home, right?

Okay was the hidden song you were referring to "BAD"-You know I'm bad, I'm bad, you know it, you know-Michael Jackson! :) Did I get it? I see no one else has guessed so far since my post. I think the idol talk distracted them! :) Idol is very distracting though!

ok - you can be my friend for life. we have recorded ALL the old Matlock's, Murder she wrote and also advise you add McBride to your list :) By thet way ... i'm not old, just because my eldest daughter is almost 30, been married 31++ years, i really feel 29 and that's what I tell my friends. you may just have to add a few more years!! and in case you might wonder, i'm also 100 lbs. maybe add a few more to that number also!!!!
